It was a big day for Hollywood, and an awesome moment for Bollywood: Decadently-dressed desi beauties Priyanka Chopra and Deepika Padukone, not too forget Frieda Pindo, hit the Oscars after party on Monday.

Also wearing a black gown, Priyanka turned up in a shimmering figure-hugging Michael Kors number that was perfectly complemented by her slick hair and make-up.

Duo isn't trying to revolutionize video calls, it just wants to approach them from a more modern perspective, one that builds on our smartphone-carrying habits, our needs for immediacy, and our disdain for complexity.

With just a couple of calls, Duo has proven to me that it can replace Skype on my phone and maybe even tempt me to use it instead of Whats App audio calls with certain friends.

Audio-only or group video calls aren't yet possible, there's no web or desktop client, no multi-device support, and no way to share what's on your screen for example instead of what you see with your cameras.

But even though these seemed like deal-breakers to me when the app was announced, after using it for a few days, I'd argue that they're secondary features to what Duo is trying to be: an instantaneous way for you to get in touch with someone else as if you were near them.

Of the two communication apps that Google announced at I/O, Duo surely seemed like the less interesting one. While the company has declined to comment on pricing, which will invariably determine consumption and revenues from 3G services, they did say that their existing SIM card’s will be ready to switch over to 3G services: quite literally, as we suggested last year, the flipping of a switch, once a customer requests provisioning. But there remains the arduous task of attracting consumers to 3G services, or indeed, the Mobile Internet."We reiterate our positive stance on the Hong Kong telecommunications sector as we expect better pricing in mobile to start to be reflected in operators' financial results this second half of the year and drive higher earnings and cash flow growth …we see upside to dividend delivery post-auction as well." The Office of the Communications Authority (Ofca), the executive arm of the industry regulator, said on Monday that a total of 49.2 megahertz of paired radio spectrum in the 1.9 gigahertz to 2.2GHz band was auctioned off.
